Veteran country estate agency Humberts is making an “ambitious” move outside its Home Counties heartland, rolling out its franchised office model to other parts of the country, starting with the Lake District.
A new branch will open in Windermere in January, covering residential matters across Cumbria. Local Cumbrian Kathy Barlow will be running the show, and plans to open a further two to three offices in the region over the next three years. This first Northern outpost brings the estate agency’s tally of franchised offices to eight.
Humberts – part of the Chestertons Group – is “actively looking” to grow its branch numbers across the country “and introduce new income streams across the business”. It’s looking at the franchise model to open up new location outside of its established South Eastern presence, but also says it is open to “acquiring suitable companies in the Home Counties area to be incorporated into the wholly-owned business”.
Ian Westerling, Managing Director of Humberts: “I am delighted to welcome Kathy into the Humberts family and we are excited by the opportunities that exist for our brand across the Lake District. The Humberts business is well suited to the region and we very much look forward to creating new long term relationships with customers and providing them with an opportunity to receive the very best level of service and expertise that you would expect from one of the country’s most respected brands.
“We have ambitious expansion plans over the next five years and developing a wider franchised office network is part of this three pronged strategy. We are, therefore, keen to speak to other estate agency owners, or anyone considering starting an agency business, who would be interested in a Humberts franchise in locations north of our current wholly-owned branch footprint, and to other firms in the Home Counties that would be interested in selling their business to us.”
Kathy Barlow is a local Cumbria resident: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be setting up a new office with my team in Windermere. We’ll be offering expert local property knowledge for both primary and second home owners and look forward to being part of an already thriving community.”
