Mandarin Oriental furnishings go under the hammer

2,500 furnishings, fixtures and fittings to be auctioned off next week as Grande Dame hotel undergoes major refurb

One of London’s most famous luxury hotels, the 198-room Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Knightsbridge, is about to get a major facelift, and that means having a big old clear-out first.

Those with a penchant for five-star hotel chic will be given the chance to recreate the MO look to a tee next week, as 2,500 of its furnishings, fixtures and fittings are set to go under the hammer.

The iconic 115-year old institution is getting rid of “reproduction furnishings in Georgian and Regency style” worth an estimated £200k-£250k, which were installed as part of a £30m makeover in 2009. The hotel is also planning a separate timed auction of 1200 paintings for a later date.

Pro Auction is in charge of proceedings, and it’s all happening down the road at The Cadogan Suite in the Millennium on October 24th-26th. You can check it out online at thesaleroom.com.
