Only the most dedicated of buyers are likely to be eyeing up the English seaside in the depths of winter – and there’s a particularly long off-season this year thanks to a late Easter – but country property agency Humberts has chosen this cold snap to launch a dedicated Waterfront & Coastal department.
Aptly-named veteran waterside agent Michael Cornish is running the show – which promises to “provide a one-stop shop for those looking to purchase or sell properties overlooking or close to rivers, lakes, estuaries and in coastal locations” – out of the Chichester office in West Sussex.
The nationwide launch follows a strong 2016 for the firm, which reports trading figures up by 18% compared to the previous 12 months, and an even bigger spike in demand from waterfront homes.
Michael Cornish, Head of Waterfront & Coastal at Humberts: “Over the past year alone we’ve experienced a 25% increase in demand for Waterfront homes. Downsizers and retirees make up a large proportion of our buyers – they tend to be releasing cash from larger homes for a change for lifestyle but are willing to pay a premium for the benefits that a property close to water can bring.
“Many of our waterfront buyers are looking to escape the rat race and make the most of the amenities and sporting opportunities that waterfront living can offer. The peace, tranquillity and stunning views are all reasons why a waterfront home is often top on our purchasers’ wish lists.”
