Plans to build the biggest resi tower in Western Europe have been given the thumbs up in East London.
Greenland Group’s mighty 240-metre 67-storey Hertsmere House scheme bagged the nod after Tower Hamlets planners concluded the new design will “sit comfortably within the townscape”. Only a touch shorter than One Canada Square, the giant “petal-shaped” structure will soar above West India Quay and deliver 861 resi units and 942 square metres of commercial space.
Plans to build something of serious stature here have been knocking around for over a decade, but Shanghai-based Greenland took the call to go with a resi scheme after acquiring the site in 2014, tasking US-based practice HOK with the design.
The developer is also in the process of revamping the Ram Brewery in Wandsworth.
