After five years of hand-wringing, head-scratching and the odd outburst from Prince Charles, it looks like the infamous Chelsea Barracks site is finally about to begin its prom queen-style transformation.
Bloomberg has got its mitts on a letter sent out to local residents by “The Chelsea Barracks Partnership” – dated last week – apparently advising neighbours to prepare for works kicking off in “early November”.
First up, it sounds like Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Co.’s Project Blue (Guernsey) affiliate will raze existing structures to the ground, then commence foundation works on the prime £959m, 13-acre plot.
Purchased via a joint venture in January 2008, the Project Blue team got the initial planning nod for nearly 450 homes two years ago, but still requires final approval for the actual design of the structures.
Consultations are promised “in due course”.bloomberg.com Image by Peter McDermott (Creative Commons Licence)
