Interior designer Celia Sawyer has unveiled a rather extraordinary creation for one of her clients.
The celebrity favourite was commissioned by the unnamed customer to come up with a “bespoke piece of objet d’art” for a bathroom, and brought Robert James Grace of Grace of London on board to plan, produce and create the one-off “masterpiece”.
Grace of London has been working in the field of mosaics and gold leaf designs for some 35 years, and the team of British craftsmen manufacture handmade pieces for affluent aesthetes all around the world.
The collaboration has resulted in a design for a 24-carat tub adorned with 250,000 clear and topaz crystals. Artisans including Clough Harris, Thomas Restorations and Locker and Riley – many of whom hold royal warrants – will now set to work on actually making the piece, which is described as “something exquisite and never seen before”…
Celia Sawyer: “My client has exceptional standards and only expects the best in the World. There was no need or desire to look any further than our own shores here in the UK to find the plethora of talent required to make this dream a reality. We have so many excellent British craftsmen and artisans and I love supporting home-grown talent. It is crucial to show the younger generations what can be achieved particularly in the craft industry as all of these experts started as apprentices. The exquisite team involved in this project are now major players in their own right and it’s wonderful to see the design develop.”
Robert Grace: “We create super-luxury sanitary-ware and furniture for exclusive, signature residences and clients worldwide all wanting that special piece that is not just available off the shelf.”
