Alan Jones has dramatically resigned from the Board of the Royal Institute of British Architects, after taking issue with the renewal of Chief Executive Alan Vallance's contract.

Architects and builders are reporting significant issues with the supply of building materials, causing on-site delays and escalating prices.

The latest RIBA Future Trends Index, for May 2021, tells of the highest level of  optimism amongst architects since 2016 - and a record high for the private housing sector.

The Royal Institute of British Architects has partnered with Google's Arts & Culture platform to create 15 specially-curated online "stories", showcasing the best of the RIBA archive.

"The savage reduction in staffing levels that many feared at the start of the pandemic has not materialised", says the RIBA, as architecture firms remain upbeat about prospects.

The percentage of British architecture practices expecting their workloads to decrease in the coming months has fallen to 11% - down from 84% a year ago.

Members will need to prove their professional competence every five years, according to the proposals.

"It is a mixed and changing picture but with an overall growth in confidence," says the RIBA

'Brexit will have a long-term material and potentially highly damaging effect on the architects’ market', warns the RIBA.

Architects' workloads have recovered to stand 10% below where they were last year, with private housing continuing to lead growth.

New series of weekly talks will explore "how domestic architectural plans give form to hidden economic, gender, class and cultural power relations."
