European law firm Fieldfisher has hired Jayne Backett as a partner in the firm’s Finance group, with a focus on real estate deals.
Backett joins following an 11-year career with Mayer Brown, where she advised on many a chunky UK and European deal, from financing real estate acquisitions and investments to advising on financing loan portfolios and real estate restructurings.
Fieldfisher’s real estate finance team handles matters for quite a few big hitters, including more than 50 banks and financial institutions around the world. The firm has also advised the likes of Manhattan Loft (on the development of the Grade I listed former Midland Hotel at London St Pancras station, into 67 luxury apartments and a 244 bed five-star hotel) and Southwark Council (on the Potters Field site, home to Berkeley Group’s super-prime flagship One Tower Bridge).
Philip Abbott, partner and head of Financial Institutions at Fieldfisher: “Jayne’s experience across real estate finance, advising from all sides of transactions, will be of great value to Fieldfisher and our client base. Finance is a key part of the firm’s strategy and within that real estate finance – so we are delighted to welcome a lawyer of Jayne’s calibre to our growing team.”
Jayne Backett: “Fieldfisher’s reputation within real estate finance is on the rise and I am joining them at an exciting time. The firm has stellar real estate and hotel credentials, a notable funds practice and a strong client base, therefore, I foresee great opportunity to play an important role in Fieldfisher’s finance team as it grows both in size and in market footprint.”
