City Hall recruits Hammersmith planning chief for top housebuilding role

Juliemma McLoughlin to join the Greater London Authority as Assistant Planning Director

The Greater London Authority has hired Hammersmith & Fulham’s planning boss to replace Stewart Murray (who left last year to join GL Hearn) as Assistant Director of Planning.

Juliemma McLoughlin’s been Director of Planning and Growth at H&F for the past decade – overseeing major developments including Earls Court, White City, Chelsea FC’s stadium and Westfield – and now moves up the ladder to a London-wide role. Before Hammersmith, she worked for Newham’s planning department, and started out at the Sydney Ports Corporation in Australia.

McLoughlin is due to start work at City Hall in April, with a remit to steer the GLA’s London Plan – including running the housebuilding programme. A first draft of the new London Plan is slated for publication some time later this year.

Deputy mayor for planning, regeneration and skills, Jules Pipe: “I am delighted that Juliemma is joining City Hall as she brings an unrivalled depth of knowledge and expertise to the role.

“Juliemma stood out from a strong field and I am looking forward to working with her to deliver high quality design and good growth in London, which must include building more new and genuinely affordable homes for Londoners.”
